The Dance Department Goes GlobalInternational Cooperation and Recognition Activities through Joint Cultural Events and Workshop

This activity occurred from October 31, 2024 (departure) to November 8, 2024. The Department of Dance Arts, Indonesian Institute of the Arts (ISI) Padang Panjang performed on November 3, 2024, at Wesleyan University, United States, with a performance entitled Sound of Minangkabau. This work was choreographed by Yan Stevenson and performed by dance students, namely Alsa Fitro, Jenilva Magrilla, Saura Arfina, and Suci Rahmadhani. This performance raises the peculiarities of Minangkabau culture, especially dance. In addition to the performance, the Department of Dance Arts also held a Randai workshop that introduced Randai punch patterns, motifs, and movements. Wesleyan University students and lecturers welcomed this activity.

Furthermore, on November 7, 2024, the Department of Dance Arts had the opportunity to hold two Randai workshop sessions and display the work of Sound of Minangkabau at Yale University, United States. This activity provides a new experience for lecturers and students of the Department of Dance Arts ISI Padang Panjang in introducing Minangkabau culture. On the other hand, Yale University students gained new insights into the diversity of Minangkabau dance movements. This experience enriches both parties, with the hope that in the future the Department of Dance Arts of ISI Padang Panjang can establish cooperation through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) and Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) to strengthen synergy, including the exchange of teaching staff and students

In addition, the Rector, Vice Rector I, and Head of the Department of Dance Arts of ISI Padang Panjang visited the Consulate General of the Republic of Indonesia (KJRI) in New York. During the meeting, efforts to introduce Minangkabau culture to the international arena through collaboration with the Ministry of Culture were discussed, including creating a space for appreciation of Minangkabau culture that can be accessed by the people of the United States, especially in New York.
